Hello Parents, my name is Beatriz Flores. I have been teaching for 12 years. I have a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Phoenix, a certification to
teach and a master's degree in education administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. You may contact me via e-mail at [email protected], or in person. My conference period is Mon-Fri. from 11:35 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Please feel free to schedule a conference if you have any questions or concerns. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.
This is a transition for your child and the beginning may be difficult for some. Know that it will get easier, just give it time. Our goal this year for the students is to learn to write their first and last name, count to 20, learn the letters of the alphabet and the sound each letter makes, just to name a few. Learning to rhyme is important because it facilitates reading. So when you are driving somewhere, having lunch or going for a walk, teach your child that words that sound alike are words that rhyme and give them examples. After several days or weeks of this have them tell you words that rhyme.
Our Dual language program consists of teaching in English and Spanish. It is a 3 hour program that will be divided 1 day in English and 1 day in Spanish. This school year we will study the following themes: Friends/School, Family, Community, Celebrations, Forest, Jungle, Polar Regions, Farm, Animal Habitats, Aquatic Habitats, Recycling and Shadows & Reflections/ Earth & Sky. But most important things we are teaching the children are independence, socialization, structure and rules.
We will test the students three times a year. The tests are scheduled for the beginning, middle and end of the school year. We will test for letter and number recognition, shapes, rhyme, alliteration, to name a few. I will post the test dates as soon as I am notified of when they are. The end of year test will take place in March.
On a personal level, I have three daughters, three sons-in-law and 7 grandchildren, ranging from ages 20 to 5. One daughter, son-in-law and 2 granddaughters live in Phoenix. One daughter, son-in-law and 1 grandson and 1 granddaughter live in Las Vegas. One daughter, one son-in-law and 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter live here in El Paso.
The class will have a substitute teacher, Ms. Ibarra, for the first few weeks while I recover from surgery. I hope to be back sometime in September and I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children.
